What is psychotherapy and how is it different from talking to a friend?

Unlike conversations with friends, therapy offers a confidential space, free of judgment, focused entirely on you, with structured approaches designed to create lasting change. I bring clinical training, ethical responsibility, and a consistent, boundaried presence that a friendship cannot replicate.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or simply want to understand yourself better, therapy can help. You do not need to be in crisis to seek support. Many people come to therapy for personal growth, not just difficulty. If something in your life feels heavy or unclear, that is reason enough to reach out.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping to work on, and what feels important to you. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see if my approach feels like the right fit for you.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. You do not need a referral to begin psychotherapy with me. You can reach out directly to book a free consultation. Some insurance plans may require a physician referral for reimbursement purposes, so I recommend checking with your provider.

What is a free consultation and what happens during it?

A free 15 to 20 minute phone or video consultation is an opportunity for us to briefly connect, discuss what you are looking for, and determine whether we are a good fit. It is a relaxed, informal conversation, not a clinical assessment. There is absolutely no obligation to proceed.

I work with adults (individuals), couples, families, and children and adolescents. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. My space is inclusive, affirming, and culturally sensitive.

I support a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self esteem, family conflict, parenting challenges, and more. If you are unsure whether your concern fits, please reach out. I am always happy to discuss.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

Sessions are tailored to each individual. Approaches I use may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1), mindfulness based approaches, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy, and play and art therapy for children. I meet you where you are and work in the way that best serves your needs.

Do you offer in person sessions?

Yes. In person sessions are available at my Mississauga location. I have created a warm, private, and welcoming environment where you can feel fully at ease. Virtual sessions are also available for clients across Ontario.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Secure, PHIPA compliant video sessions are available throughout Ontario. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is equally effective as in person. It offers greater flexibility, accessibility, and comfort, so you can connect from wherever feels safest for you.

What are your session fees?

Sessions are $190 for 50 minutes and $285 for 80 minutes. Please visit my Services page or contact me directly for full fee information.

Do you direct bill insurance?

I provide detailed receipts for all sessions which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please check with your insurer to confirm your coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO designation).

Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP?

Accepted Answer

No. OHIP does not currently cover private psychotherapy with Registered Psychotherapists. However, most extended health benefit plans through employers do provide coverage. I recommend contacting your insurance provider and asking specifically whether your plan covers a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

What insurance plans do you accept?

I work with most major insurance providers including Manulife, Sun Life, Green Shield, Canada Life, Desjardins, and others. Please contact me if you have questions about your specific plan. I am happy to help you navigate your coverage.

Do you offer a sliding scale fee?

I hold a small number of reduced rate spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. I believe access to quality care matters. Please reach out to discuss this confidentially. I will always do my best to find a way forward together.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed appointments without adequate notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. I understand that life happens, so please reach out as soon as you are able.

How long does therapy take?

This varies greatly depending on the individual, their goals, and the nature of what they are working through. Some clients find meaningful progress in 8 to 12 sessions. Others benefit from longer term work. We revisit goals regularly and the pace is always guided by you, never rushed.

How often should I come to sessions?

Weekly sessions are recommended especially at the beginning of therapy, as consistency supports momentum and deepens the therapeutic process. As progress is made, sessions may naturally shift to biweekly or as needed, always in collaboration with you.

What if I don't feel a connection with my therapist?

The therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor in successful therapy. If at any point you feel the fit is not right, please tell me. I will do everything I can to address your concerns, or support you in finding someone who is a better match. Your wellbeing always comes first.
